The hammer falls with a decisive crack. A property in Kensington changes hands, and a legacy begins. The year is 1805, and a poultry farmer named Charles Chesterton has just made another transaction at Phillimore Estate. If he could see us now—celebrating our 220th anniversary amid the gleaming towers of Dubai —I wonder what he'd make of how far his name has traveled.
Chestertons is one of the oldest real estate firms in the world. It was founded by Charles Chesterton in 1805 and shaped London's evolving real estate market. Initially, Charles worked as a poultry farmer with his father along with managing properties for the Phillimore Estate, out of hobby. Realizing his talent and passion for property, Charles eventually made the transition to full-time real estate, establishing a legacy that would last generations. What began as one man's career change evolved through careful stewardship by successive Chesterton family members, each adding to its reputation and reach.
Now, after over two centuries, a small family business has grown into a trusted global name, handling prestigious estates like Hyde Park and Mayfair.
Today, Chestertons’ influence extends globally, blending its centuries old heritage with modern real estate excellence across 4 continents, 20+ countries, and 84 offices!
In 2005, Salah Mussa led company Mercantile Group acquired Chestertons and turned an underperforming company into a global force. Through Salah’s leadership and 40+ years of entrepreneurship experience, Chestertons expanded from 11 London offices to 84 branches in 20+ countries, breathing new life into a 200-year legacy.
While Chestertons UK was sold to private equity group Emeria in 2023, Mercantile Group retained Chestertons Global and its extensive international presence. This strategic decision was made to expand the company into more emerging markets like the MENA region. As a result, Chestertons established their first MENA office in Dubai and saw growth at an ambitious rate, almost instantly— making Dubai one of its most significant regional hubs.
Next, we are expanding in Saudi Arabia market and planning a new headquarters opening in Riyadh in 2026. This expansion would allow us to capitalize on Saudi Arabia's dynamic property reforms and emerging opportunities for both international and domestic investors.
After 17 years of expansion in the MENA region, Chestertons now employs nearly 60 professionals who bring centuries of British real estate expertise to the region.
The journey from Charles Chesterton's humble Kensington to Dubai skyline shows how a brand can embrace innovation while also preserving its rich heritage.
When Charles Chesterton founded the firm in 1805, he likely never imagined his name would one day be associated with such prestigious polo events in Dubai. Yet the connection makes perfect sense—both embody tradition, precision, and a certain timeless elegance.
